Elonad:
Elonad is a terra world inhabited by many sentient races. This planet is two thirds water, and one third of it is a huge chunk of land that breaks above the water at seperate places, giving the illusion of seperate continents and islands. Each of these continents seems to be seperate from the others, but they are all really connected together deep down, thousands of feet below the surface of the sea. Several more thousand feet down the land stops, and from there only water goes down to the center of the planet.
From the surface, the continents and map of Elonad vaguely represents the old map of Earth. Sages theorize that Elonad and Earth are reflections of each other. They say that the planets are reflections of the same archetype that appear in seperate locations and planes of existence. True or not, the continents and geography do resemble each other, and many of the major cities on Elonad are also located roughly where major cities used to be located on Earth, before Earth was destroyed by demons. The resemblences ends there however. There are far fewer humans on Elonad than there are on Earth, and all the typical terra-world races such as elves and dwarves are present on Elonad.
The people and cultures of Elonad are typical medieval races and cultures. Humans live in the open lands, dwarves in the mountains, and elves and fey races live in the forests. Most of the world is wild and completely uninhabited by intelligent life. Though magic is used and even flourishes in some lands, spellships are never used here and most of the world's inhabitants do not even know other worlds exist. Those that do usually see other planets in the same way they see other planes of existence, and the way they are seperated from each other is unimportant. Some of the mages and sages in the more advanced, magical nations do know about other planets, but they prefer to use dimensional travel and gateways to travel back and forth, not spellships.
Elonad is seen as a backwater by most space farers, but is also considered a good place to adventure. As long as one hides one's spellship from locals and pretends to be a traveler from another part of Elonad, one does not have a hard time blending in. Attempts to get locals to understand and accept spellships and space travel usually meet with bad endings, though. For example, the ships are taken by locals and disassembled in an attempt to see how they work, or the ships and their crews are destroyed by locals who blindly fear them. In general, because of the way the inhabitants of this planet usually think, it is best to keep space travel a secret on this world.
There is a magical gateway on Elonad in the Northern Wilds region of a landmass called Western Elonaria. Many sages who are interested in alternate prime material planes study it. When the right magical words are spoken an opening appears inside an archway that is here, carved into a cliff near the sea. Different words open gateways to different alternate versions of Elonad/Earth. It seems that only different versions of earth can be accessed here, but the sages believe they have only discovered a small portion of the earth versions the gateway can lead to.
There is a small village outside the gateway that was built by the sages who are studying the gate. They have built other teleportation portals of their own in this village. These portals lead to the Dragon Vale Empire, Thrazaya and the Sky Realms, Norendra and Methstassa. The sages that come and go from Elonad, as well as a scattering of adventurers and explorers, usually use these portals.
